Business Update
Update.
This is intended to quickly address the questions which have been coming in. If you have been in touch, I thank you for your patience and assure you that you will be provided notice to book a session when the schedule reopens; the date of which has been postponed until at least June 14th after the current state of emergency is addressed.
Explanation:
The recent announcement by the province to approve the re-opening of businesses was one that was unexpected by our profession. Prior to this announcement, the Massage Therapy Association of Nova Scotia had submitted a required return-to-work plan to the department of public health which had still been under review until this week — leaving a gap of uncertainty and inability to accurately prepare. Now that our guidelines have been amended and approved, there still remains an issue of liability. If therapists choose to work after June 5th, they will be assuming all liability for transmission of illness as we are not covered for a pandemic. Essentially, this would be like driving your car without insurance in a city where there were no traffic rules. Therefore, many therapists and other businesses, myself included, are choosing to hold off until there is a change to the current state of emergency. I am also still waiting for a very delayed delivery of required supplies.
While I remain confident that my workplace will be a comfortable and secure environment for our sessions, with respect to meeting therapeutic needs and cultivating a holistic relationship, I do not feel that it is ethically responsible to re-open until the risk of COVID-19 transmission being minimized is assured. Once other businesses with greater ability to social distance are opened for a stretch, there will be a better idea of community safety. It's also fair to note that this ever evolving situation is always subject to change.
As I move forward in alignment with my massage therapy peers, I trust that this will only increase our opportunity to return to business safely and permanently, with minimal chance of having to go through this again. I also hope that this decision continues to fortify your trust in me and comfort any trepidation you may have about returning to your health care practitioners.
I hope that you find ease in the upcoming transitions and enjoy being able to access some needs you may have been missing. (I'm sure there will be many hair appointments taking priority!) While there certainly exists a certain amount of stress around these decisions, and even more so around the current state of events in our world, knowing that our upcoming reunion is not far off is a helpful positive focus. Until then, please take care of yourself and one another.
With Best,
Alicia
